Lucifer Review a Day

5x16 A Chance At A Happy Ending   Finally! We are at the final. This review is different because I won’t break it down and talk about specific moments just give a quick review.  This episode runs out the very solid run that started in 5x14. It’s these three episodes that have cemented it as one of the best. This episode has some nice and brilliant call backs to the premiere. We see some familiar faces and we have revelations along the way. We have love, heartbreak, joy and sadness. We also end with a twist that we should have seen coming and a cliffhanger that has me dying to see what happens next.  Definitely a worthy episode to end the season on with as to be expected brilliant performances from all. This cast, writers and directors really know how to have us dying with laughter one minute and than dying from the dehydration our tears have caused us the next. I’m wrapping up this review with a sneak of what may very well be the funniest, most earned and needed scen...

5x15 Is this really how it ends? Aka Rip my heart out why don’t you. This episode is completely crushing, real and hard to watch let alone rewatch, and it also may be the greatest episode of Lucifer so far. I could go on for ages about this but short is sweet so instead I’ll just talk up key performances and things I noticed. This episode made me realise how truly under appreciated Dan is and the Dan/Chloe relationship is. They went from divorced parents co-parenting to the type of friends who aren’t even friends but family. No one knows Dan like Chloe and no one knows Chloe like Dan. They have formed a beautiful understated but real (especially since Dan’s baptism into the celestial world) relationship and this episode hits hard in reminding us of that.  In that vein Kevin Alejandro and Lauren German are continually underestimated performers who do shine in this episode. The way their scene just ripped my heart out is a real testament to that. I have watched many tv shows w...

5x14 Nothing Lasts Forever I’ve been slack with this but I’m determined to finish it so let’s get into the brief review. This is the first episode of a run that really is some of the best of the show.  We have Lucifer still going ahead with his plans of being God and trying to get Chloe on board. While also trying to plan God’s retirement and speed up the announcement of who will take over. We meet the most handsomeness of the angels at a BBQ. Also get to meet the treat that is Gabriel. Honestly I love seeing Lucifer interact with his siblings. Also Dad is once again brilliant. We also see Ella going to see Linda and revealing just how dark she can be. A side that they have actually called back to in the past (2x13 to be precise).  And we realise angels are not the only ones who self actualise. There are three stand out scenes for me. First is a Decker double date because naturally Lucifer connects that if he is happy with a Decker his dad will be happy with a Decker of...

5x13 A Little Harmless Stalking I’ll let you in on a secret. I love this episode and it is basically my new comfort one although on first watch I wasn’t as won over.  There are two big relationships that take up stories so let’s get into the review.  Linda and Adriana  Linda and her daughter are the main focus on the case of the week. See it seems that saying contact has to be her choice and sticking to that are completely different things. So in her attempt to keep an eye out for her daughter - by stalking - she tries to help her. At the end after running into Adriana she admits to Lucifer that as much as she thinks it should be her choice and as much as she wants a relationship she is also scared, something Lucifer understands all too well (see next relationship). Good news for Linda though, Adriana takes after her mother and is smart. After having suspicions just from their similar appearances, her behaviour at the open house and the run in at the LAPD she track...

5x12 Dan Espinoza: Naked and Afraid  Get ready for another quick review. This is definitely a bottle episode but very enjoyable and answers something from 5x08 - What was Lucifer’s revenge plan for Dan? That question really does sum up the episode. It shows Dan in all his awkward, failing but always trying self and is a great show and reminder of how good the character is and how much he is loved not only by others but by fans of the show. There are great call backs and links to things from the past and with these we see how he has changed from the beginning. Kevin is brilliant and season 5 really has been his season to show up what he is made of. Now the other thing to mention is that we find out all the hi jinx are constructed by Lucifer when Dan does and after everything Dan deserves a medal lol. There are great moments of comedy through out but the exchanges at the end are great. Dan is devastated at the thought that Maze died but she didn’t and when she jokes that she w...

5x11 Resting Devil Face  I’m going to start with a heads up that this will be a short review as it is currently serving up a huge storm outside and, while writing reviews are a good practice I am also dead tired from work. So let’s get to it. I don’t know why but I expected this 3rd episode of 5B to feel more like a filler, but it really is one of my favourites.  Dennis is fantastic, and while he has already shown his dramatic capabilities this episode gives his comedy a chance to shine, the above gif is just a small taste of what to expect. In saying that one of my favourite moments is the more somber realisation that God had that the people were going to kill him but more importantly that the devil face Lucifer gave himself is how he feels about himself (bring it all back to self actualisation again). God also has great moments with Maze who realises she already has or is grown her much wanted soul, Dan who gets an explosive surprise but good news is God hasn’t lost a...

5x10 Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam I really enjoyed this, which as a musical lover wasn’t surprising but coming off the last episode was. We start with “Wicked Game” which is a song I love in general and fit so well (with the minor changes) coming of the confusing back of last episode. The vocals were solid and the filming/editing was great they way Lucifer and Chloe were worked into the frames. Trixie’s drawing of her and Lucifer is adorable and makes me want her to find out who Lucifer really is because I feel she may be one who takes it really well. Also, Lauren German is unfairly beautiful especially in that first shot.  Dad entering led to one of my least favourite moments between them (but then again they were all top notch so that doesn’t say much). But hearing Lucifer say he destroyed his one chance at happiness made me feel for him. And if you remember from yesterday that end did some damage to my views and trust so it was needed. I’m also glad they added Lucifer get...
