Love, Monsters and Comedy; Oh My!

  Astroid heads to earth - earth sends rockets to stop them- saves earth. Actually dooms earth due to the chemical compounds needed for the rockets which rain down and changed cold blooded creatures which meant about 95% of the population was killed in a year.   That is the summary of how we have gotten to the point where the movie starts. Side note: I could listen to Dylan do an audiobook all day.   Joel is living life as a single person in a bunker where everyone has found their soulmate, and narrates letters to Amy. Joel is the cook and has a friendship with Mavis the non-working robot. The bunker is breached and Joel is eager to join in but apparently he gets scared to the point he is a liability which is explained to him in a clearly rehearsed speech. This is something we become familiar with not long after.  Flashbacks establish Joel and Aimee as a cute somewhat typical high school couple, up until the world started to basically blow itself up.  Back to no...

Only One Thing To Say...

  Just Say Yes There is nothing better than sitting down and watching a romantic comedy. Thankfully in recent years we have some new ones on offer unlike that dark period around the 2010’s. The newest one being the Dutch Netflix original, Just Say Yes .  This movie doesn’t stray from the typical romantic comedy troupes; girl (Lottie) is dating a guy (Alex) who is all wrong, they break up she meets a guy (Chris) who is all right but both don’t express their true feelings, girl gets back together with wrong guy before finally seeing the light and finally getting together with the right guy.  Of course as with all good romantic comedies their are nuances to the story that just make it better. Chris is sweet, helpful and a little cocky which adds to his appeal as he isn’t a clean cut obvious “good” guy, Lottie’s group of friends are stereotypes of happily single and not happily married but there is a hilarious side moment for one of them involving Lego and an unfortunately pl...
