Lucifer Review A Day
5x14 Nothing Lasts Forever
I’ve been slack with this but I’m determined to finish it so let’s get into the brief review.
This is the first episode of a run that really is some of the best of the show.
We have Lucifer still going ahead with his plans of being God and trying to get Chloe on board. While also trying to plan God’s retirement and speed up the announcement of who will take over.
We meet the most handsomeness of the angels at a BBQ. Also get to meet the treat that is Gabriel. Honestly I love seeing Lucifer interact with his siblings. Also Dad is once again brilliant.
We also see Ella going to see Linda and revealing just how dark she can be. A side that they have actually called back to in the past (2x13 to be precise).
And we realise angels are not the only ones who self actualise.
There are three stand out scenes for me. First is a Decker double date because naturally Lucifer connects that if he is happy with a Decker his dad will be happy with a Decker of his own. This scene is great because we get the see Rebecca DeMorney’s Penelope again and react to her daughter and Lucifer dating. We also have a gorgeous looking Chloe out of work clothes, a clueless and smug Lucifer, and God who is enjoying all this but delivering some truths to Lucifer and Chloe. Mainly that he didn’t have a balance work and life leaving his wife (the Goddess) to suffer.
The next is a family scene. If you haven’t seen the episode I don’t want to spoil it but I will say it was beautifully down, ticked many boxes and gave Lucifer and Amenadiel something they have wanted for a very long time. Oh and God retires once and for all.
The last scene is perhaps one of my favourite Deckerstar scenes. Lucifer calls Chloe as he needs her, Chloe let’s slip she is retiring from the LAPD to support Lucifer and Lucifer is speechless, except for the pointless conundrum of what to call her if she isn’t a Detective anymore. So why is it a favourite? Because in all Lucifer’s speechlessness it is so very obvious in that moment that he is deeply in love with her in that moment. The looks and the kiss are tangibly deep and loving that {spoiler alert} I actually found the scene of his 3 words uttering to be unnecessary.
A great episode that gives some light before they rip our hearts out.
Being on the pain.
