Lucifer Review a Day
5x13 A Little Harmless Stalking
I’ll let you in on a secret. I love this episode and it is basically my new comfort one although on first watch I wasn’t as won over.
There are two big relationships that take up stories so let’s get into the review.
Linda and Adriana
Linda and her daughter are the main focus on the case of the week. See it seems that saying contact has to be her choice and sticking to that are completely different things. So in her attempt to keep an eye out for her daughter - by stalking - she tries to help her. At the end after running into Adriana she admits to Lucifer that as much as she thinks it should be her choice and as much as she wants a relationship she is also scared, something Lucifer understands all too well (see next relationship).Good news for Linda though, Adriana takes after her mother and is smart. After having suspicions just from their similar appearances, her behaviour at the open house and the run in at the LAPD she tracks Linda home to confirm her suspicions. They end in a good place and the two siblings meeting.
Lucifer and Chloe
Amenadiel wants to talk about Dad’s retirement with Lucifer and break him from all the hobbies he has picked to distract from something. The one thing he isn’t being distracted from is said retirement after all it was always going to be Amenadiel stepping up. A little chat about overthinking and how Lucifer is no longer a “go with the first impulse” person ends in Lucifer deciding to “just do it”. And for once his stupid ideas actually don’t have immediately bad repercussions. Side note: the just do it reminds me so much on his “yes and” in season 3.
Speaking of season 3 something Chloe said to Pierce comes back. She is waiting at Lux to get a final answer from Lucifer as it’s no longer affected her but Trixie and saying the words are not important as “words are just word”. Lucifer having just made a decision sticks to his new catchphrase after all it’s obvious they want to be together so they should just stop overthinking it.
It is possibly one of the most simplest things especially after Lucifer has seemingly worked out his daddy issues. The other thing is it gives a cute hug that shows their happiness and also Lucifer’s not quite look.
See this episode has many cute, couply Deckerstar moments but we also get moments were we clearly get the impression that something isn’t sitting right with Lucifer. The doctor isn’t picking up what he is throwing at her because of her issues so he just coasts until he talks to Linda after her chat with her daughter. This time he doesn’t need to ask her for help because what she says he gets. In a beautiful monologue he sums up that he has always wanted to be with her but in his eyes she is perfect and he is not worthy.
This is a theme that was there in season 2 after their first moment and it was hinted at in 5x08 when Pete talks about being worthy of Ella and realising its not up to him but her (a conversation had just before he became invulnerable). This is than the catalyst for a major decision.
During all this Amenadiel has come to the realisation that he doesn’t want to be God and not because he doesn’t feel worthy like Lucifer suggests but because he is happy on earth. He has a life, connections and is happy. But he doesn’t know who else could be God. In steps in Lucifer who seems to cling on to the idea of “worthy” and declares he will be God.
