RuPaul’s Drag Race goes Down...Under

I feel like more people are initiated into this than I am but I finally started watching my second season of a drag race, the Down Under version.

I’m one episode in so far and it was just as over the top, dramatic, visually in your face and bitchy (but in an entertaining way) as I wanted.

RuPaul was served double duty as host and judge with two other judges (whose names I have forgot 😬) to hype up and critic the contestants who are not lacking in personalities. There are some stand outs like Art Simone, Elecktra, Coco Jumbo and Karen from Accounting - which are my personal faves - and then there is stand out potential drama - I am looking forward to seeing the competition between two co-owners of a drag queen entertainment company and one of their talent because all three want to prove to the others that they are the best.

Taika Waititi was the guess judge of the first episode which really is a match made in Heaven. He judge the mini challenge of acting for a sci-fi movie. That challenge was a great start with no real losers except acting...and Anita. Elektra surprised others (her look is definitely interesting) and won this challenge.

The next was to serve two looks; born naked and one inspired by your home town. The first category showed some really creative choices such as half nude half dressed and the bikini falling to reveal tan lines. There were also some questionable ones like designer vagina and putting a large face over the body. Sympathy shout out to Scarlet who had a full back blow out on her nude suit leaving her to do a quick sew job.

The next category- looks inspired by your home town- once again brought some creative looks such as Scarlet’s Black Swan, Karen’s drunk Melbourne Cupper and Art Simone’s take on Paris inspired Collins St to graffiti filled Hosier’s Lane. We also had a touch of the political in Jojo’s Aboriginal Marie Antoinette look with “Always Has Always Will Be” statement and just odd with the Big Prawn look.

The three top ended up being Karen, Art Simone and Scarlet and the bottom three being Coco Jumbo, Elektra and Jojo. With Elektra and Jojo going to the lip sync battle.

Now this was a no brainer as Elektra just commanded the stage and cameras but Jojo gave it the best shot and reminded people to embrace their Faboriginality.
